Read an excerpt: Chapter 6

Suddenly Oscar grabbed my arm and ushered me up the stairs away from the gaping faces. His voice was tense as he whispered, “Be careful what you say. Don’t draw attention to yourself. Media is one thing, but spies? A whole other ball game.”
“Spies? Who has spies?”
“As of this week, the place reeks of Arno’s camp and we all know where he wasn’t tonight.”
“How do you know this?”
“It’s my job. I make it my business to know everything.”
“Are you some kind of detective after hours? And where are you taking me?” I couldn’t believe the balls on this guy. We continued in a hurried walk toward the far end of the main lobby and continued down the corridor. He then steered me to an elevator, pressed the button and smiled as guests came up behind us.
“I think you should see something. You want facts for whatever it is you’re doing? You’re a writer, aren’t you?” Oscar looked sideways at me and held the elevator door until I entered. He blocked anyone else from getting on.
“We’re going down, sorry private party.” He pressed another button and the doors quickly closed.
