“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”
The Runway in the House of Astoria
The Runway I’m the House of Astoria is an upmarket/literary novel blending history, romance, and mystery, with a twist of a personal vendetta, set against the backdrop of today’s modeling culture during New York City’s fashion week.
Olivia, intense & lonely; Joe, driven & distraught; Dante, moody & sarcastic; Rex, bashful & goofy. These are just some of the characters brought together in this compelling novel.
What if a clairvoyant fashion writer was able to bridge the past to the present and restore a family’s infamous legacy by giving the spotlight to a girl whose dreams were cut short in one horrifying moment?
History of the Astor Dynasty:
The Astor’s (of the Waldorf Astoria) legacy: In an age of high society and grandeur of scandalous proportions, appearances were everything. John Jacob Astor’s hotel dynasty “built on patient courage and masterful resolve”, soon became tainted with sorrow and dark secrets. He earned a miserly reputation when the gossip papers reported on the outrageous behavior the entitled blue bloods of “old money” lavished upon themselves. Even generations later, the Astor’s harbored family resentments and held a disdain for the lower class society. And so, out of spite, cousins, William Waldorf Astor and John Jacob Astor IV, eventually went on to build the first famed Waldorf and Astoria hotels. (Known today as the Waldorf Astoria.) Their “privileged lives” constantly scrutinized in the unforgiving public eye, became the price of enormous self-worth “in a society without a throne” .
